PRECIOUS OPAL FLOWER STERLING SILVER EARRINGS 409

Opals are very special. This is a stone that has many different colors in it and displays them based on the the silica particles in them.

These are precious Opals, as you will see if you read the tidbits below, and they are incredibly beautiful.

This is a pair of sterling silver earrings with lots of precious Opal in the shape of flowers. They measure 7/8" in circumference. The are made with a post in the back and a clip that closes over the post for safety. However, if you don't have pierced ears, we can remove the post and you will have clip on earrings.

Ours is a very reasonable price for these Opal earrings. The picture does not show the magnificence of these earrings but you will not be disappointed.

Tidbits about Opal from the Encyclopedia of Gemstones:

Most opal is 50-65 million years old, dating back to the Cretaceous period when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Opal formed as silica from decomposing rocks mixed with ground water which formed a silica gel that collected and hardened in underground cavities and fissures. Opal's chemical formula is SiO2 .nH2O.

There are two distinct types of opal, common and precious. The way the silica particles form determines which type. In precious opal, silica particles are packed in regular rows and layers. Moving the stone causes light to diffract, or split, as it grazes the opal surface. This light diffusion shows iridescent flashes of green, blue, aqua and sometimes yellowish or red colors which are referred to as "fire."
